Ultimate Frisbee in Ireland

Ultimate Frisbee has been in Ireland since about 1995, with the first clubs growing out of the Dublin area. Ultimate Frisbee started in UCC in 1999, when a Welshman named David Rosenfeld moved to the college. It has been competing in Irish and UK tournaments since 2002, when the first Irish intervarsitites were held in Cork.

There are only a few other University ultimate teams in Ireland with established teams in UCD, TCD, DCU, DIT, Sligo IT and Queens University Belfast as well as ourselves, but this number is being added to all the time. Currently, teams are being set up in Waterford IT and Tallaght IT.

As well as the university scene, there are also a lot of schools in the greater Dublin area including Donoghmeade and Loretto Convent in Navan.

Added to that are a number of clubs in Dublin, including Johnny Chimpo, Broccoli, and Pen15.

For international competition, Ireland is represented by 4 "All-star teams". In the open division, is the famous Paddy Murphy and the feeder team, Seamus Murphy. Throwing Shapes is the co-ed team which featured at European Clubs in 2005, and this year, Irelands first ladies team was set up, MAC (Maith an Chailín).
